Abstract: |
This
study describes the analysis of the effect of using a dual nozzle toward
the Cross flow turbine performance. The dual nozzle used is mounted on a
horizontal and a vertical position, round-shaped cross-section and
serves to direct water jets entering the turbine runner blades and
convert the water potential energy. The purpose of this study is to test
the Cross flow turbine performance increase with a dual nozzle as a
hydropower generation by varying the load on the turbine shaft. The
research method is by doing a test to find out the dual nozzle Cross
flow turbine performance in the laboratory and finally analyze it
empirically. From the test data result and from the data analysis it is
found that the Cross flow turbine with a dual nozzle could have an
optimal efficiency and a better performance. |

S. and Valarmathi R. |
Abstract: |
Qualified and resourceful control strategies have recently emerged with
an optimized solution while dealing with systems that are non-linear.
This paper is endeavor to intend an optimized control strategy which
proceeds a scheme of developing pre-dominant PID controller and
Fractional order PID controller which is enforced to deal with the
non-linear heat exchanger system. The Fractional order PID controller
has the non-integer order of integration and differentiation operant
that made the controller more robust. For evaluating the performance,
the FOPID controller is compared with traditional PID controller. The
parameters of both the controllers were optimized by minimizing the
objective function using evolutionary algorithms such as Genetic
Algorithm (GA) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). An objective
function is defined by Integral Time Absolute Error (ITAE). From the
entire simulation results it is observed that PSO based FOPID performs
well when compared with PID controller. |

Abstract: |
Advances in computer capabilities have increased the interest of using
more complex simulation model into solving the Navier Stokes equation in
open channel. Computational fluid dynamics using Large Eddy Simulation
model were used to simulate the vegetation presence on floodplain along
main channel inside meandering compound channel. Simulations were done
for two different relative depths for non- and vegetated cases. The
measured and predicted in bank stream wise velocity were compared at
bend apex of the compound channel for validation. Presence of vegetation
significantly reduces the velocity in the area near the vegetated
main-channel and floodplain interface also in the area protected from
the upstream flows. The numerical result shows that the flows inside the
main channel were greatly affected by the vegetation especially for low
relative depth. Interaction between stream wise velocity of over bank
and in bank becomes more complex thus highly turbulence in the area near
the vegetation. |

Abstract: |
An
effective calculation model of a computational experiment that
adequately describes the change in a condition of geotechnical model in
time considering the change in geometry of contours of investigated
galleries was developed. An analysis of mining-geological and
mining-technical conditions of a stoping area was carried out. The
experience of performing mining and development during a long wall
mining method and applied constructive-technological coal extraction
schemes, mathematical modeling of geo mechanical processes in a
geotechnical system was studied. Stress-strain state, manifestations of
rock pressure, conditions for maintaining the galleries depending on
mining-technical and technological parameters were investigated.
Measurements in operating galleries of Dolzhanskaya-Kapitalnaya mine
which has similar mining-geological conditions to determine the
deformation characteristics of a gallery contour were performed. A
calculation model was developed, which was later used to predict a
stress-strain state (SSS) of the rock massif in the conditions of
Belitskaya mine. The analysis of obtained data allowed determining the
values of the optimal rates of stoping face movement, depending on the
structure and mechanical characteristics of a coal-bearing rock massif. |

Electronic properties of semi conducting
zigzag (10, 0) carbon nanotubes due to uniaxial strain |
Author (s): |
Irfan Dwi Aditya, Widayani and Suprijadi |
Abstract: |
In
this paper we report the study of the change in electrical properties of
zigzag carbon nanotubes (10, 0) under uniaxial compressive and tensile
deformation using Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculation. There is
an energy gap of 0.972 eV between occupied and unoccupied region in the
optimized structure calculation. We found that the band gap of the semi
conducting zigzag (10, 0) CNTs decreases as the strain increases for
both compressive and tensile deformation. Different profiles of charge
density appear for tensile and compressive deformations. The charge
density of compressed state is more localized in the z direction of C-C
bonds. Meanwhile, charge density of elongated state is localized in the
diagonal C-C bonds direction. At the large tensile strain, the C-C bonds
break at the z-direction C-C bonds. ICOHP analysis shows that the bond
strength of CNT drastically decreases under tensile deformation. |

Abstract: |
In
this paper, a combination of the dual-mode technique and the fractal
based resonator geometry has been adopted to design a compact band
reject filter. The proposed filter structure relies mainly on that of
the triangular patch resonators with an embedded slit structure. The
Koch fractal geometry has been applied to the uncoupled side lengths of
the triangular patch resonator. The filter structure has been modeled,
and its performance is evaluated using the commercially available method
of moment (MoM) based simulator, Sonnet. Results imply that the
resulting dual-mode response seriously affected by the uncoupled side
lengths of the triangular patch resonator. The consequences of varying
the Koch indentation angle and the slit length on the resulting filter
performance have been explored. Simulation results have confirmed the
validity of the proposed resonant structure to realize a compact
dual-mode stop band microstrip filter. |

Abstract: |
This
experimental study was focused on the usage of DBD plasma actuator for
enhancement aerodynamic performance of airfoil model NACA 0015. The DBD
plasma actuator was able to suppress flow separation near the leading
edge by disturbing airflow near that region. It can be seen that
continuous small scale vortex is produced near the leading edge and it
flows near the airfoil surface. Experimental works were performed at
Reynold number approximately 63000 to 252000 with external airflow 5
m/s, 15 m/s, and 20 m/s. A thin plasma actuator was installed on NACA
0015 with 190 mm chord length and 260 mm span length at x/c = 0.025,
where x is the vertical distance measured from leading edge and c was
the chord length. Lift force measurement, measurement of pressure
distribution on upper surface of airfoil and flow visualization were
conducted to investigate the effectiveness of DBD plasma actuator. The
experiment was tested during plasma ON (actuation) and plasma OFF
(baseline case). The result shows that actuation case may increase lift
coefficient compare to baseline case. |

Abstract: |
A
methodology for upgrading the hot die's technological forging processes
was developed to increase forgings' economic efficiency based on
computer modeling in QFORM and DEFORM-3D software packages. "Mounting
Bracket" and "Disc" hot die forgings, made of aluminum alloys, were
selected as the process for the upgrade. Meanwhile, the improved
efficiency of technological process must not be connected to replacement
of the utilized deforming equipment, considerable renovation of the
pressing tool, or any changes in the form and size of the die forgings.
Analysis of the existing technologies of the forgings' manufacture
provided a basis to define an objective for computer research, namely,
reducing the quantity of forging transitions via optimization of the
contact friction, temperature, and speed conditions of metal
deformation. As a result of forging with the use of new technology
developed based on computer modeling, the forgings whose geometry and
properties met the normative documentation requirements were produced in
one transition in a factory environment. Meanwhile, the prime cost of
their manufacture dropping by at least 10%. |

Abstract: |
One
of the ways to improve the efficiency of Information Retrieval (IR)
systems is through document clustering. The search result of an IR
system can be grouped or clustered so that the retrieval is made faster.
Efficiency of IR systems has to be improved without compromising the
quality of clusters. This paper presents a comparative study of the
quality of cluster results by solving the problem of document clustering
using Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) algorithm and Cuckoo Search
Optimization (CSO) algorithms. The results of experiments done on Clssic
4 dataset shows that both the algorithms are equally good in giving good
quality clusters. The quality of clusters is measured in terms of
F-measure and DB-index. |

Abstract: |
There
are various methods of curing concrete after casting. The most common
method is curing by immersing in a water curing tank. This research
involved the curing of concrete cubes in water/lime solution of
water/lime as in the following proportions: 100%0%, 80%20%, 60%40% and
40%60%. 108 concrete cubes, with equal numbers of 36 each were cast at
water/cement ratio of 0.4. 0.5and 0.6 for the 4Nos water/lime curing
medium. The mix ratio used for the experiment was 1:2:4. The concrete
cubes were crushed after 7, 14, and 28 days respectively to determine
their compressive strength. The 100% water and 0% lime solution was used
as the control curing medium for all the water/cement ratios. There is a
general increase in the compressive strength of the concrete cubes at
0.4, 0.5 and 0.6 at 7, 14 and 28 days curing periods as the quantity of
lime in the curing solution was increasing. The optimum compressive
strength was obtained at 40%60% water/lime curing solution for all
water/cement ratios and for all curing ages. The percentage increase at
7, 14 and 28 days was 52%, 20% and 22% at 0.4 water/cement ratio, which
had the highest compressive strength. At 0.5 water/cement ratio, the
percentage increase in compressive strength was 35%, 7% and 20% at 7, 14
and 28 days respectively, while at 0.6 water/cement ratio the percentage
increase in compressive strength was 60%, 19% and 29%. |

Abstract: |
Brine
water- which derived from seawater reverse osmosis reject water (SWRO),
has an high amount of dissolved solids (TDS). Brine water also contains
NaCl concentrates, that in huge quantities has certain economic values,
as a raw material in chlor-alkali industry, the regeneration of
resin-ion exchange and any other substantial benefits. The early stage
of NaCl recovery process from reject water starts with separation phase
of NaCl from various mineral impurities exist mostly in Calsium and
Magnesium. The main purpose of this research was to discover optimum
condition of natural flocculant Moringa oleifera (MO) on decreasing
impurities mineral brine water from SWRO reject water, so that it could
produce NaCl solution high concentrate. In this study, response surface
methodology (RSM) approach was used to optimize concentration of NaOH as
precipitant, flocculants dosage and flocculation velocity gradient (G),
and the results will be measured as maximum decreasing of TDS
impurities. The final result of this research shows TDS impurities is
succeeded to be decreased by the Moringa oleifera’s extract in the

Droplet-like bent multimode fiber sensor
for temperature and refractive index measurement |
Author (s): |
N. Sidek, A. I. Azmi, M. A. A. Razak, M.
R. Salim, A. S. Abdullah and M. Y. Mohd. Noor |
Abstract: |
This
work proposes and demonstrates a bent multimode interference (MMI)
sensor for refractive index and temperature measurement. The MMI
structure was fabricated by successive splicing between
single-mode-multimode-single-mode (SMS) fibers. A droplet-like bent was
introduced in the multimode fiber section for excitation of modes into
the acrylate coating. The excitation of higher modes into the acrylate
coating is particularly interesting due high thermo-optic coefficient of
acrylate which could improve temperature sensitivity, while evanescent
field interaction of modes at the acrylate surface with surrounding
material could be used for refractive index sensing. These modes
experienced phase changes due to temperature and/or refractive index
changes, consequently shift the spectra of the sensor. The sensor
structure was simulated using BeamProp software to determine the
required bending to excite light into acrylate coating for sensing. In
experiment, a 3.5 mm bent sensor demonstrated refractive index
sensitivity of 42.41 nm/RIU tested with refractive index between
1.30-1.395. Meanwhile, temperature sensitivity of 1.317nm/°C was
attained using 5 mm bent sensor between 25 °C to 35 °C. The low cost and
simple sensor structure is desirable in many applications including for
detection, diagnosis, and determine of health, safety, environmental,
liquid food, and water quality control. |

A novel game theory scheme to

Author (s): |
A Muruganandam and R. Anitha |
Abstract: |
Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) deploys for remote monitoring applications
namely healthcare monitoring, finance and military. The nature of WSN in
certain application makes it impossible to inspect and repair the nodes
physically at certain times. In such cases, an unwanted user can
associate to the node and retrieve crucial information. Moreover,
conventional routing mechanism include Dynamic Source Routing (DSR)
scheme to transmit data to destination. In DST routing scheme the whole
data shift from one node to other node. The routing mechanism pose a
disadvantage when network deal with confidential data. We propose, a
Game theory routing scheme to forward data to destination with secrecy.
The objective is to transmit data to destination under compromised node
condition, without sacrificing network parameters namely throughput,
network lifetime, end to end delay and packet delivery ratio. The
proposed routing scheme is simulated and the same implement in hardware
for comparative analysis and validation. |

Abstract: |
This
article discusses the issues of increasing the reliability of loaded
machine parts by modifying the surface using laser heating. In order to
increase the durability of vehicle differential axle a method of surface
modification has been considered, which combines advantages of discrete
alloying of steel surface upon laser heating, diffusion metallization,
and nitriding. Combined technology of surface strengthening of
engineering steels is proposed, which is comprised of laser alloying
with chromium, subsequent diffusion metallization and nitriding in
environment of dissociated ammonia. It is demonstrated that preliminary
local alloying makes it possible to decrease processing temperature and
to obtain diffusion layer thickness in two times higher in comparison
with conventional procedures. Nitriding of surface alloyed steel 40Kh
(0, 4%C, 1%Cr) increases microhardness of strengthened layer up to 17.5
GPa, promotes formation of transient layer which positively influences
on wear resistance of parts, increases their durability. |

A conceptual framework of WMN enabled WBAN
system for pilgrims’ health monitoring during Hajj in the kingdom Saudi
Arabia |
Author (s): |
Shah Murtaza Rashid Al Masud, Asmidar Abu
Bakar, Salman Yussof, Ghassan Ahmed Ali and Vaskor Mostafa |
Abstract: |
Due
to the hardship of expedition, instability, and fluctuation of rough
weather, continuous walking, hassle and mental stress during the Hajj at
Makkah in Saudi Arabia, many pilgrims get injured, sick and tired.
Besides, those who are suffering from various chronic diseases may also
contract severe heart, chest, abdominal, and kidney diseases along with
some infectious diseases like influenza and thus complicate the overall
physiological functions of the patients. Other than the problems of
diseases, overcrowd at religious sites also cause other noteworthy
problems including trauma, missing and lost pilgrims, and even death.
And so, it is a vital issue and a big challenge to provide the best
healthcare facilities and services for pilgrims and their real-time
monitoring during Hajj. Wireless body area network (WBAN) is a promising
technology for healthcare. But, providing suitable communication network
between WBAN and healthcare providers is another challenging issue.
Modern information and communication technology (ICT) systems can make
it feasible that WBANs will connect itself to the Internet to transmit
data and efficiently administer the proper delivery of healthcare
services among the pilgrims during Hajj. Therefore, integration of the
medical technology and ICT in the healthcare sector is a prominent
research issue especially for WBAN. However, the coverage of a WBAN is
limited to only about 1-2 meter. Therefore, to largely extend its
coverage area it should interwork with other wireless networks which
will facilitate connectivity between those sensor devices of WBAN and
the outside world. Due to the limitations of self-expandable,
self-configuring and self-healing nature of other existing conventional
wireless communication technologies, wireless mesh network (WMN) is the
suitable and potential communication technology for transferring
pilgrims’ health information to the healthcare stations crowd
environment at Hajj ritual sites. WMN, due to its self-expandable nature
can be deployed with WBAN during Hajj for pilgrims’ health monitoring
which requires extending the coverage of the environment. Therefore, the
main objective of this research is to design a conceptual healthcare
framework for pilgrims’ health monitoring during Hajj by integrating
WBAN and WMN technologies. |

Abstract: |
The
aim of this study is to apply a PID auto-tuner to the FOT device and
test whether the controller can follow a multisine reference input. The
objective is that the nonlinear effects and distortions coming from the
FOT device itself are corrected by the control action, such that the
excitation signal of interest is delivered to the patient. In this
phase, the closed loop control will be designed for a hypothetical
patient: a respiratory tube and a rubber balloon. The underlying reason
is because it is necessary to ensure repeatability of the experiments,
in order to check the feasibility of implementing a closed loop control
strategy in the lung function device. The final aim is to develop the
closed loop control for the case when the patient is breathing. |

Abstract: |
Cloud
computing is a scalable and flexible environment that delivers
economical computing facilities to clients based on queries. Response to
query depends upon the speed of pattern matching, error correction, and
resource allocation during query processing. The algorithms for query
processing, sequence alignments of data from NCBI, EMBL, DDBJ and
storage of recurring complex enquiries, are complicated and time
consuming in the HADOOP framework. In order to obtain secure, swift and
consistent response to queries, multi-agents have been introduced as a
substitute for Job Tracker. They enhance the pace of query handling,
allocate tasks to the Task Trackers, boost fault tolerance and increase
reliability. Multi-Agents have also been deployed amid user and Agents,
in the middle of Agents and between platforms to provide security

Abstract: |
Most
of the new energy furtherance in wind, sun, oil, gas, nuclear and
hydroelectricity includes underwater infrastructure. All underwater
infrastructure requires routine inspections for long haul care from
corrosion. Underwater investigations were arduous, troublesome moreover
risky. In order avoid the unpropitious incidents, a new digital image
processing strategy was proposed in this article to investigate
underwater infrastructure. A hybrid image processing algorithm developed
by incorporating Poisson-Gaussian- Mixture distribution, Fuzzy
Segmentation, and weak-classifier Color based (WCCD) algorithms to
detect Corrosion in underwater infrastructure. The proposed algorithm
along with the Remotely operated underwater vehicle in detecting the
corroded spot show adequacy in recognizing the corroded spots in the
underwater infrastructure. |

Abstract: |
The
purpose of the study was to establish the adaptive and
economic-biological characteristics of the Holstein cattle of different
ecological-genetic types and the efficiency of the use of new feed
additives "Stimul" and "Bischosulfur" in rations of lactating cows. The
experimental part of the research was carried out in the period from
2006 to 2015 in the Volgograd region of the Russian Federation. The
object of the study was the Holstein cattle imported from the USA,
Denmark, Germany, Australia. The results of the study showed that
animals of American and German breeding possessed a higher level of
natural resistance and adaptability to specific features of the natural
and climatic conditions of the region. However, while providing
conditions conducive to an increase in the timing of economic use of
Holsteins of different breeding, preference should be given to cows of
Danish breeding. By the level of economic efficiency of milk production
on average for five lactations, the cows of this selection exceed the
United States, Germany and Australia selection peers by 8.4%, 3.7% and
10.8% respectively. To increase the economic efficiency of dairy
production on the complexes, it is advisable to introduce innovative
feed additives "Stimul" and "Bischosulfur" from the calculation of 100 g
per head per day into the ration of feeding lactating heifers, which
will increase the productivity of animals by 4.72% and 3.14% for
lactation, an increase in the fat content in milk - by 6.54% and 4.41%,
protein - by 5.97% and 3.75%. At the same time, the profitability of
dairy production will be more by 6.4% and 4.1%, respectively. |

Abstract: |
The
government of Indonesia has rolled out the acceleration program for the
construction of power plants to increase the rate of electrification in
Indonesia. Coal fired steam power plant is the most widely constructed
to support this program and it’s became the largest of total installed
capacity in Indonesia. This research aims to obtain alternative of
maintenance strategy in accordance with existing conditions in
Indonesia. Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Technique for Order
Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) used by obtaining
criteria, sub criteria and alternative options acquired from the
judgment and opinion from 10 experts in power plant. Experts are asked
to do a pair wise comparison process to determine which criteria
according to experts is more important than the other. The result of the
pair wise comparison process is then used as input of the AHP process to
determining the weight of each criterion which is used to determine the
normalized matrix to be used in the process of the TOPSIS method. This
research obtains an approach maintenance strategy to be applied for the
steam power plant in range of capacity 300 -625 MW in Indonesia. |

Abstract: |
A
novel technology Memristor is one of the most promising in the view of
their low power consumption, good scalability, and state retention
without need of power supply, simple cell structure, nonlinear
functionality and compatibility with CMOS technology. From circuit model
designer's point of view, any model is to be simple and at the same
time, it is as complex as to produce the device properties and
applications. The Memristor modeling is challenging task because of the
linear and nonlinear complexity of the mechanism. we design, reliable
SPICE Memristor models with threshold switching functionality by using
physical parameters and mathematical equations that works based on
quantum tunnelling phenomenon provides nonlinear do pant drift and
exhibits threshold voltage switching effect with accurate Memristor
simulation characteristics over a wide range of input voltage and

Abstract: |
Recently, there has been an increased demand for aluminum in the Russian
and foreign markets due to the rapid development of many
technology-intensive industries. Due to the fact that the amount of
manufactured aluminum increases every year, intensive development of the
raw material base in the aluminum industry in required, which entails
development of yet undeveloped horizons, and development of the parts of
developed deposits that are usually located at greater depths in complex
geological conditions and, accordingly, the use of efficient measures
for maintaining mine workings, one of which is the use of
earthquake-proof support design. The paper proposes the optimum design
of earthquake-resistant supports for the mines developed in complex
mining-geological conditions; this design has successfully passed tests
at domestic mines in the conditions of dynamic forms of rock-pressure
manifestations. |

Abstract: |
To
develop qualitative software products in a given schedule it is
necessary to estimate the software effort. The effort estimation is
helpful to the project managers to determine effort required to complete
qualitative software products. In this paper we proposed a novel linear
regression model based on software size metric. We applied proposed
regression model on 60 real time BPO projects. The proposed regression
model considers a linear relationship between size and effort. To
validate the accuracy of regression equation, we calculated R^2 value.
We used MMER and PRED(x) to calculate error rate and made comparisons
with standard models. The proposed model has shown much closed and
better results against some standard estimation models. |

Abstract: |
In
this publication, a comparative assessment of air pollution from sources
of heat supply systems for a different type of development was carried
out. A qualitative and quantitative assessment of the sanitary and
hygienic indices of the air basin state is provided for the location of
heat generating plants. Based on a comparison of quantitative
characteristics, one can obtain the results of comparative calculations
and the main qualitative indices of the technical solutions under
consideration. The characteristics of the source of heat in each
particular case were determined by the power of the heat source and the
technical characteristics of the chimneys. It is revealed that the
change in the dispersion zones taking into account the "wind rose" does
not have a significant effect. It is received that the overlapping of
dispersion zones in the housing and cottage heat supply is due to the
density of construction and must be taken into account when developing
architectural and planning concepts and technical solutions for heat
supply. |

and Hadi Suyono |
Abstract: |
The
first task for object detection and recognition is image segmentation.
This process is initialized with boundary detection. In this paper we
propose a boundary detection method based on standard deviation value of
intensity within the window. We assume that the low value is similar
color where the computation process occur on the same object. While the
high value, the computation process will occur on the object’s boundary
or edge. In this research we compare to other methods to evaluate the
performance of proposed method. The experimental result, by using
window size of 3?3 pixels, our method’s computation time is 66.54
ms and using window size of 5?5 pixels, the
computation time is 67.39 ms. Video rate is 15 fps. Processing with the
proposed method yields less noise compared to other method, both for
color and grayscale processing. |

Abstract: |
In
this paper, we extend the queuing model of priority classes to the fuzzy
environment where the uncertainty is resolved by fuzzy set theory. A
parametric programming problem is constructed where the Trapezoidal
fuzzy numbers are introduced for the arrival rates and service time of
the fuzzy queue. By the a-cuts, we obtain crisp values from the fuzzy
queues with the help of Zadeh’s principle. To establish the performance
measure of the model, a numerical example is given. |

Missing link prediction in collaborative
research based on Triadic Analysis |
Author (s): |
Akila Venkatesan and Govindasamy Vaiyapuri |
Abstract: |
Researchers, academicians collaborate in academic institutions to
perform research. Most of the time, the outcome of this collaboration is
in the form of Co-authored paper publication. The Co-authoring of
research papers can be modeled as a network. In this context, many works
have been done about the link prediction in Co-authorship networks. To
predict whether a link will appear or not, each pair of nodes within the
network is assigned a score called similarity or proximity. The links
having higher similarity score are supposed to be of higher existence
likelihoods. So far, majority of previous works in link prediction focus
on the application of similarity measures such as Common Neighbors,
Jaccard Coefficient and Simrank, in order to predict new connections in
the future. To analyze and understand any evolving network, it is
necessary to study not only the link formation but also the link
dissolution. Link dissolution is a relatively new problem. This paper
addresses Unlink Prediction based on (1) Social Embededdness with
Network Overlapping and (2) Social Embededdness with Triadic Analysis.
The experiments are conducted using the bibliographic dataset from DBLP-ACM.
The results shows that the proposed work performs better in terms of
Precision and Recall. |

A state of the art review on beams on
non-uniform elastic foundations |
Author (s): |
Adel A. Al- Azzawi and M. H. Al-Madani |
Abstract: |
This
research is a review on previous work on linear elastic behavior of
beams resting on uniform and non-uniform Winkler foundation. Several
methods were used previously by other researchers starting from
analytical and numerical such as series, finite difference and finite
element formulations which are developed to solve various problems. The
finite element method is formulated previously by using beam, plate and
solid 3D elements to model beams and spring elements to model Winkler
foundation in the past. Also, the finite difference coded in MATLAB and
Fortran was used to formulate the problems to deal with various
variables using Gauss Jordan and Gauss elimination to solve them and to
compare with the results. Also, the Fourier series coded in various
computer program to obtain the results and used to check and compare
with the results obtained from other methods. In both methods, Fourier
series and finite-difference, the formulations are based on the basic
differential equations. The results obtained from previous studies using
different methods are given and discussed together to compare and check
the accuracy of the solutions. Good agreement is found in these methods,
which indicate the efficiency of these methods which was used by
previous studies. |

Abstract: |
A
current trend in nowadays metallurgy is to create combined technologies
that cover several metallurgical treatment procedures or various
operations performed on a single device dedicated to manufacturing
required products and thus ensuring the manufacture of competitive
products at minimal production costs. The forms in which the
technological operations in metallurgical production are combined may
vary. Most effective is the combination of casting and plastic metal
working processes. However, during the crystallization of molten metal
in an annular groove of the disc and subsequent pressing, a considerable
amount of heat is generated, and part of it shall be removed to
establish the isothermal conditions while carrying out the continuous
casting and pressing process. Otherwise, unstable temperature in the
pressed articles exiting a die channel may lead to mechanical
properties' dispersion and the distortion of their geometry in length as
well as at cross section of the pressed articles, thereby lowering the
products' quality. It should be noted that the pressed article is
destroyed when a temperature similar to the melting temperature of the
pressed metal is achieved, which shall be considered as an ultimate
defect. Moreover, increased pressing temperature decreases the strength
of the tools, which leads to their premature failure. One of effective
ways to solve this problem is forced cooling of both the pressing tool
and metal section. This paper presents various technical solutions aimed
at solving this problem. |

R. |
Abstract: |
Model
Predictive Controller (MPC) is one of the advanced methodology in
current control engineering which has become the attractive strategy
that deals with linear/non-linear dynamic behavior of the system. Linear
MPC approach is used in this work for the quadruple tank system by
taking the lower two tanks into account. The aim of this work is to
design and investigate the predictive controller for controlling the
level of tanks in a quadruple tank process based on constrained and
unconstrained type of problems. Various disturbance scenarios were also
applied and proved by controller to show a good response to disturbance
rejection. The best possible control is achieved by tuning the
parameters of MPC based on a tuning algorithm. The controller is thus
designed in the MATLAB environment and according to the gathered
simulation environment results, the applied control method were best
suitable for obtaining optimal control and the results were analyzed by
performance measures. |

Abstract: |
Milling of T6-6061 aluminium alloy material is a complex and challenging
process due to the difficulties in finding the optimum milling process
parameters for achieving the desirable properties such as surface
roughness and optimum tool life. The parameters selection is generally
based on the skill and knowledge of the technicians involved and number
of time consuming trial and error runs. The experiment presented
involved measuring the acoustic emission during the milling experiment
with different spindle speeds and feed rates. It has been found that
spindle speeds and feed rates have the highest effect on the cutting of
the aluminium alloy thus also influencing the tool wear. |

EOQ inventory model for time dependent
deteriorating products with quadratic time varying demand, variable
deterioration and partial backlogging |
Author (s): |
R. Kavitha Priya and K. Senbagam |
Abstract: |
In
this article we present a suitable EOQ Inventory model for deteriorating
items having time dependent demand, allowing shortages. We have
considered a variable deterioration rate which is sensitive to changes
in time. The demand rate is assumed to be a quadratic function of time.
The permitted shortages are considered to be partly backlogged. The
backlogging rate is changing and reliant on the length of the following
renewal. The mathematical formulation of the model is first developed
and solved analytically to minimize the average inventory cost. Finally
we have discussed the proposed model with a numerical example and
analyzed its sensitivity to change in parameters. |

Farhan and Wansu Lim |
Abstract: |
A big
margin of the handicapped people still do not have the same
possibilities to express themselves and further advance their
personality as the majority of the population. The control and use of
smart phones proves to be a big challenge for them. Applications
controlled by speech serve as a substitution to the finger controlled
based applications that dominate the market. Through the use of such
applications the handicapped have the chance to experience the life of
the unburdened. Based on those implications the development of an
application to support the artistic needs of the handicapped was
imminent. The developed application achieves the support by being fully
controllable by speech. The development proved to be a possibility but
the limiting factors of the mobile phones and the pocketsphinx library
hindered any groundbreaking results. Nonetheless the application allowed
for a base research on the still small field of accessibility
applications. |
