Abstract
Performance evaluation of a new design compact patch antenna intended for millimeter wave applications in multiband wireless communication is reported. FR4 epoxy substrate, having a dielectric constant of 4.4 and a loss tangent of 0.03, is used as substrate material. Its electromagnetic behaviour is analysed through High-frequency structure simulator (HFSS). The design features a 1.7 mm × 3.3 mm metallic patch incorporating four Z- shaped slots, micro-slots for surveillance, and stubs of varied dimensions, and is powered by a 50 Ω feed line. Hexa-band resonance is achieved across the K, Ka, and V bands at 24.13 GHz, 30.97 GHz, 36.93 GHz, 39.95 GHz, 42.80 GHz, and 47.15 GHz. The antenna demonstrates a minimum reflection coefficient of -23.07 dB, a bandwidth of 3.91 GHz, an omnidirectional radiation pattern, and a peak gain of 6.3 dB with its excellent EM characteristics and stable electrical performance. The designed antenna can be used in short-range broadcasting, wireless sensor networks (WSNs), and automotive radar applications in K and V bands.
